At Trinity Homecare Group, our values extend far beyond the services we provide to our clients. We’re deeply committed to supporting our local communities, and one shining example of this dedication is Barbara Baig, our Group Head of Quality and Continuous Improvement, who has been volunteering her time at the Renewed Hope Night Support Shelter in Reigate since December 2024.
Each year, the Renewed Hope Night Support Shelter opens its doors from December to March, offering a warm, safe place for individuals experiencing homelessness. The shelter provides beds for up to 10 people per night, offering them not only a safe space but also a hot meal, friendly conversation, and a non-judgmental environment where they can find reassurance during difficult times.
Barbara has been dedicating 3-4 shifts a week, from 6pm to 10pm, supporting the guests by creating a welcoming and compassionate atmosphere.
“Volunteering at a night shelter has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Some people have just had bad luck- they’re not bad people; they just need a little help to get back on their feet. They’re all incredibly friendly and respectful, seeking understanding and non-judgmental support. I feel truly privileged to have met so many wonderful people, not just fellow volunteers from all walks of life, from paramedics to construction engineers, but also the guests, who have so many stories to share- some of them really heartbreaking. It’s been humbling to witness the resilience and strength of the individuals I’ve met, and it’s reminded me of the importance of kindness and community.”
In addition to providing a safe haven during the night, the Renewed Hope Day Support service runs all year round, continuing to offer assistance to people experiencing homelessness. Barbara’s volunteer work ties closely with her professional role at Trinity Homecare, where she is responsible for leading quality and continuous improvement efforts. Her experiences at the shelter have deepened her understanding of the importance of care, empathy, and continuous improvement- values that she actively brings into her professional role.
Last year alone, the Renewed Hope Night Shelter helped over 30 individuals who would have otherwise been sleeping rough. This vital service provides not only shelter but also hope, safety, and the sense that someone cares. Barbara’s efforts at the shelter exemplify our commitment at Trinity Homecare to making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable people, both within our work and through charitable contributions.
Barbara’s volunteer role aligns perfectly with the core values of Trinity Homecare:
- Truly Belong – Barbara’s work ensures that each guest at the shelter feels welcomed, respected, and at ease.
- Build Trust – Through her supportive and non-judgmental approach, Barbara fosters trust with the guests she meets.
- Here to Care – Whether at the shelter or in her professional role, Barbara exemplifies the compassionate care that is central to Trinity Homecare’s ethos.
- Be the Change – By actively contributing her time and energy to Renewed Hope, Barbara is helping create positive change, showing that kindness and community matter in all aspects of life.
The Renewed Hope Night Shelter is always in need of volunteers, particularly during the winter months. Barbara’s involvement serves as a reminder that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. “Being involved in this work has given me a deeper understanding of the importance of community support,” Barbara reflects. “At Trinity Homecare, we focus on offering high-quality, person-centred care. Volunteering at the shelter has reinforced that commitment to care and the importance of offering kindness and dignity to everyone we meet.”
Barbara’s dedication to both her work at Trinity Homecare and her volunteer efforts at Renewed Hope demonstrates the values we hold dear: compassion, respect, and a commitment to continuous improvement in every part of life.
