Who needs convalescent care?
Anyone recovering from illness or injury, that leaves them temporarily unable to carry out normal tasks, will benefit from convalescent care. People often seek convalescent care when they require routine support, but no longer need hospital care for their condition.
Convalescent care can take many forms. For some, it may be medical support, such as having a caregiver administer medications or giving assistance with mobility issues. For others it may entail more practical support such as help with personal care, preparing meals, tidying the home, or running errands.
Here are some examples of situations in which you would benefit from convalescent care:
- Post-surgery recovery
- Hospital discharge after a fall or similar accident
- Following a stroke or heart attack
- Acute illnesses
- Chronic diseases
People who have undergone a surgical operation will start to receive postoperative care in the hospital. This care will continue once discharged from the hospital until the person is able to fully recover and return to normal activities. We provide postoperative care at home, which is focused on rehabilitation.
If you are unsure which type of care is best for you get in touch with us today at 020 3871 3024, our experienced team of experts can help you with our free no-obligation enquiry service.
How long can convalescent care be provided?
An important distinction between convalescent care and other kinds of care is that it is intended to be temporary and focused on achieving a specific outcome; such as a person regaining the ability to cook for themselves.
We all have times in our lives when we need a bit of extra support. At Trinity Homecare we know there’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to recuperating and rehabilitation. That is why we offer a range of convalescent care services, tailored to suit each individual’s needs. Our expert care team carries out a full at-home assessment allowing us to create a personalised care package to suit each unique situation. We also provide long-term care options for those who need support for the foreseeable future.

Where can convalescent care be provided?
Convalescent care is typically provided in two different locations; within your own home or in a residential care home. The vast majority of people prefer to recuperate at home, amongst family, friends, and pets, in comfort and safety.
Whether you need a helping hand with regular tasks or an increased level of care, we provide you with the support you need until you can get back to normal life. Benefits of convalescent care at home include:
- Maintain daily routines
- Stay close to friends, family, and beloved pets
- Continue independent living
- Often less costly than residential care
- Personal one-to-one care, tailored to individual needs
- Continuity of care
Convalescent care costs and funding options
The costs of receiving convalescent care at home vary depending on individual needs and circumstances. At Trinity, we offer a flexible service to suit each client. Our regular visiting care would be suitable for clients requiring care once or twice a week or several times a day, while our live-in care assigns a professional carer to live in your home to provide full-time care whenever you need it.
Home care at Trinity starts at £28 per hour for visiting care and £1,400 per week for live-in care. Live-in care costs are often comparable to residential care but with the added benefit of personal one-to-one care delivered in the comfort of your own home.
For visiting care options it is important to know that Trinity Homecare is a private care provider, not a care agency. This means we directly employ all our care staff so we can monitor your care closely, adjusting your care as needed and without surprise added costs.
State funding may be available depending on your circumstances. The amount you pay towards your care and the availability of State funding depends on where you live in the UK, as well as the value of your savings, investments and your property.
To find out if your local authority will contribute towards your care fees, contact them to arrange a free needs assessment. The assessment identifies your care needs and how much support you need. To determine whether your local authority should pay for some or all of your care costs, they will follow up with a financial assessment, also known as a means test, which looks at your capital and income.
