Mrs F, a cherished client of Trinity homecare, has recently been experiencing a difficult time. She has recently lost her husband, after a short stay in hospital and was finding it hard to come to terms with her loss.
Mrs F also has dementia, so the waves of grief were distressing when she remembered that he had passed. She would become teary and her son was growing increasingly concerned for her welfare.
Mrs F’s Care Manager, Lisa, was scheduled to make her routine check in with the family when she received an unusual request from Mrs F’s son. Knowing how upset his mum had been and how much she loved animals, especially dogs, Mrs F’s son requested that Lisa bring her beloved dog, Buster, to the visit.
Lisa was more than happy to have her furry companion with her and introduced Mrs F to Buster. Immediately, Mrs F’s mood changed and a smile beamed across her face. Buster, a gentle and patient dog, sat with Mrs F for two hours, allowing her to pet him.
Mrs F’s son was amazed by the change in his mum’s mood and has asked Lisa to visit again with Buster. He was so happy to see her smile again after such a difficult time.
There are many benefits associated with the older generation engaging with animals. For example, improved mental health, increased physical activity and increased communication. Our live in carers can provide support to pets within your home, so you can keep your furry companion with you.
If you know of a loved one that needs extra support and would benefit from staying in the comfort of their home, please contact our friendly Client Service Advisors, who can talk you through the benefits of live in care.
