If you are in the process of arranging live-in care for the first time, you are bound to have lots of questions: What is the process and how quickly can home care be implemented? How does live-in care work? And what do I need to do to arrange live-in care?
We understand that it can feel overwhelming and confusing when planning home care. That’s why all our services are tailored to your personal needs. With live-in care from Trinity Homecare, you and your loved ones can focus on the most important thing of all: enjoying life.
In this guide, we break down exactly what live-in care is, how it works, and what you need to do to arrange care.
What kinds of home care are available?
At Trinity Homecare, we have been providing outstanding home care throughout England for over 25 years. Our wide range of home care services offers flexibility and personalised care, so you get exactly the care you need.
Our home care can be broken down into the following types of service:
Visiting care is when a carer visits you in your home on agreed days and times. This can be from as little as 1 hour a week and up to several visits per day, depending on your needs
Live-in care describes round-the-clock care delivered by a carer who comes to live in your home so they are on hand to provide care and support whenever it is needed.
24-hour care or overnight care. 24-hour care is helpful for people with complex health needs who need support day and night, such as in the case of advanced-stage dementia. Overnight care can be employed on its own to cover for times when family caregivers need rest or to support clients who are anxious, restless or agitated at nighttime.
Through our experienced and highly trained carers, we are able to offer support for complex health needs, such as motor neurone disease care, Parkinson’s care or cancer care. No matter what type of care you choose, our services are totally flexible and easily adapted, so as your needs change, so does the care you receive.
How does live-in care work?
Live-in care can be employed as a long-term care solution or as temporary support, such as respite care to cover for an existing caregiver or for times when extra care and support is needed, such as after a hospital discharge.
With live-in care, a carer will come to live in your home to provide care and support whenever it’s needed. The carer will need their own bedroom and a place to store their personal belongings, such as a wardrobe and chest of drawers. Of course, carers need to rest also, so the carer will sleep during the night when the client is sleeping but can be woken up for occasional unforeseen care needs, such as help going to the toilet.
For people who need more round-the-clock care, such as those who experience nighttime distress, agitation or wandering, as is often the case with advanced-stage Alzheimer’s, 24-hour care can be put in place.
Overnight care can also be helpful for those who require readjusting in bed, need regular health monitoring or receive medication during the night. With 24-hour care, there are usually two carers involved in care: one carer working during the daytime and in the evening, when they go to sleep, a second carer will come to the home to be on duty during the night.
