What is 24-hour home care?
24-hour live-in care allows people to continue living at home safely and comfortably with the assistance of professional caregivers who live in the home with the care receiver. This type of care helps adults of all ages and with many different types of health conditions and needs. 24-hour care allows an individual to remain in the comfort of their own home, keeping their daily routines and contact with friends and family.
Who pays for 24-hour care at home?
In the UK, the cost of 24-hour care, whether in a care home or through home care services, can be covered privately or by the Local Authority, depending on an individual’s financial situation. Funding for care is typically based on means-testing, which evaluates a person’s assets and income to determine eligibility for support.
Assets of over £23,250 | Self-funded |
Assets between £14,250 – £23,250 | Partly council-funded/partly self-funded |
Assets of less than £14,250 | Fully council funded |
It’s important to be aware that changes to the current funding system are on the way. The upper asset threshold is set to rise to £100,000, meaning individuals with assets above this amount will be classified as self-funding. Additionally, there is expected to be a lifetime cap of £86,000 on what a person has to contribute towards their care. The lower threshold is set to also increase to £20,000, allowing more individuals to qualify for full or partial Local Authority support.

24-hour home care costs
The cost of home care can often be like that of a care home and for couples, it may even provide significant savings. At Trinity Homecare, we tailor each care plan to individual needs, making it difficult to provide an exact figure, but prices generally start from around £1,400 per week.
Factors influencing home care costs include the individual’s health condition, the complexity of their needs and the chosen provider, resulting in varying hourly or weekly rates. Our fees are typically all-inclusive based on assessed needs, making financial planning easier for families. In contrast, care homes often separate fees and may charge extra for additional services, complicating overall cost estimates.
Once the care plan and fees are set, costs usually remain stable unless there’s a significant change in care requirements. It’s important to note that annual inflationary increases are common, so families should be prepared for potential adjustments.
With over 25 years of experience, Trinity Homecare understands that managing care fees is a major concern for many families. If you’d like to learn more without any pressure, our care management team is here to help.
