When a concerned friend walked into the Trinity Eastbourne office early in January 2025, he carried more than a message — he carried hope for Loraine Groves.
Loraine, a woman once full of life, had slowly become isolated and withdrawn. Her friend explained that he had the agreement of Loraine’s solicitor, who held Power of Attorney and that she desperately needed support. Our team acted quickly. An assessment was carried out and visiting care was arranged to begin immediately.
Living in Darkness
When we first met Loraine, she was sleeping in a chair, confined to a single dimly lit room. Her curtains remained closed. The windows were never opened. She lived in near darkness — not just physically, but emotionally too.
Aside from brief visits from a private personal assistant and her loyal friend, Loraine was alone for most of the day. Our visiting care team started attending three times a day, bringing warmth, compassion and conversation into her world. But it quickly became clear that this remarkable woman needed more than intermittent support — she needed companionship, consistency and care around the clock.
A Holistic, Heartfelt Approach
Our carers have done more than support Loraine with her physical needs — they’ve made it their mission to help her rediscover the joy in everyday life. They’ve taken time to get to know her, to understand her past, and to bring back the things that once made her smile.
One of the simple but deeply touching ways they’ve done this is through music. Carers discovered that playing Loraine’s favourite songs lifts her spirits and calms her mind. Whether it’s classical piano or golden-age jazz, music has become a daily part of her routine and a powerful way for her to reconnect with memories, emotion and joy.
From small, thoughtful touches like these to consistent companionship and reassurance, Loraine is no longer just existing — she’s beginning to live again.
A Turning Point: Live-in Care
With her needs evolving and her wellbeing at the heart of every decision, we transitioned Loraine to live-in care, ensuring she had the dedicated support of a compassionate Trinity carer by her side every day and night. Visiting care continues alongside, offering breaks for her live-in carer and ensuring continuity of care.
This seamless blend of personalised care has not only improved Loraine’s day-to-day routines — it has transformed her life.
Stepping Outside — A Moment of Transformation
Just a few weeks ago, Loraine experienced something she hadn’t in years: she stepped outside.
It was a simple moment yet profoundly moving. The touch of fresh air on her face, the sight of daylight filtering through the trees — it marked a return to confidence, joy and freedom. That single step symbolised more than physical mobility; it reflected emotional healing, trust in those around her and a life slowly reclaiming its vibrancy.
A Collective Effort
This transformation wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our entire team — from those who visit Loraine daily to our incredible live-in carers who have helped build trust and nurture her spirit.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of Loraine’s journey so far. It is stories like hers that remind us why we do what we do — to help people not just live but truly thrive in the comfort and dignity of their own homes.
