MA, aged 98, first joined Trinity Homecare in November 2021. At the time, she was living independently and required only minimal support. Her initial care package consisted of a daily lunchtime visit, providing reassurance, companionship and the confidence that someone would check on her wellbeing each day.
This simple arrangement proved highly successful. MA greatly valued the companionship of her carers, and the visits quickly became an important part of her daily routine. Over the following years, she developed strong relationships with the care team, enabling her to maintain her independence and continue living comfortably in her own home.
Changes in Health
In July 2025, MA experienced a sudden deterioration in her health and was admitted to hospital. She was diagnosed with expressive dysphasia and a right facial droop. While an initial CT scan showed no immediate concerns, a subsequent MRI confirmed an acute watershed infarction affecting areas of the left side of her brain.
Following her discharge, MA returned home with support from the Urgent Community Response (UCR) team. Shortly afterwards, in August 2025, she resumed her care with Trinity Homecare, with an enhanced package designed to meet her changing needs.
Increasing Support at Home
As her recovery progressed, MA began receiving:
- A morning visit at 7:00am to assist with personal care
- A lunchtime visit at 12:00pm to support meals and daily wellbeing
Over the following months, her care needs gradually increased. By January 2026, concerns had arisen regarding her eating and drinking, prompting a further review of her support package.
To ensure she remained safe, comfortable and well-nourished, Trinity introduced:
- A daily bedtime visit
- Tea-time visits twice a week to support meals and hydration
MA’s family continued to play an active role in her care, providing support on the remaining evenings through regular visits. This collaborative approach demonstrated a strong partnership between Trinity Homecare and MA’s family, all working towards the shared goal of helping her remain safely at home.
Throughout this period, Trinity maintained regular communication with her family, providing updates and discussing options to ensure MA’s wishes remained at the centre of all care planning.
Providing Reassurance and Emotional Support
In early June 2026, MA began experiencing anxiety during the night and became increasingly concerned about being alone. To address these concerns and support her emotional well-being, Trinity introduced sleeping night care.
The impact was immediate and positive. Knowing that someone was present overnight provided significant reassurance, helping MA feel safe and enabling her to enjoy more restful sleep.
Transitioning to Live-In Care
As MA’s needs continued to evolve, discussions took place with her family to explore the most appropriate long-term solution.
Following careful consideration, it was agreed that live-in care would offer several important benefits:
- Consistent, round-the-clock support
- Greater continuity of care
- Better value compared with multiple daily visits combined with overnight care
- Most importantly, the opportunity for MA to remain in the home she loved
Together, MA and her family decided that live-in care was the right next step.
MA began her live-in care journey with Trinity Homecare on 9th June 2026.
A Rich and Fulfilling Life
MA has lived a full and meaningful life. Born in Eastbourne, she was the youngest of five siblings. In 1951, she married her husband, Bill and together they enjoyed many happy years filled with travel and caravanning holidays.
The couple lived in a home designed by Bill himself in Westham before later moving to Church Bailey. Bill sadly passed away in March 2012.
Today, MA remains surrounded by a loving and supportive family. She has two daughters, Jacki and Gilly, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren who continue to play an active role in her life and care.
Throughout her life, MA has enjoyed simple pleasures, including knitting, completing crosswords, spending time outdoors and attending coffee mornings with neighbours and friends.
Outcome
MA’s journey with Trinity Homecare demonstrates how care can successfully adapt as needs change over time.
What began as a single daily visit has gradually evolved into a comprehensive care solution, always centred on MA’s wishes and well-being.
Throughout every stage of her journey, the focus has remained on:
- Supporting her independence for as long as possible
- Providing flexible care that evolves with her needs
- Working closely in partnership with her family
- Promoting comfort, dignity, safety, and wellbeing
Today, with live-in care in place, MA continues to enjoy life in the familiarity of her own home, surrounded by cherished memories, close family connections and the personalised support she needs to thrive.
