We were first contacted by the son of a couple in need. His mother was living with dementia and his father had recently become unwell. The son was due to fly to Italy for a long-planned family holiday, but he couldn’t leave until he was certain his parents had the right care and support in place.
Our team immediately came together to explore options. An initial MDT discussion considered a live-in care package, but following a sensitive conversation with the son it became clear that his parents did not feel comfortable with a carer living in their home. We worked closely with our partners at LIC (Steve Davies), as visiting care could not cover the extended daily hours required.
A creative solution was found: Steve identified a carer who could deliver a live-out care package from 9.00am – 5.00pm. Together, we arranged an assessment the very next day, secured hotel accommodation for the carer, and organised safe transport to and from the placement.
The package began the following afternoon. All paperwork was finalised in advance, the carer was fully briefed, and every detail, from accommodation to transport, was in place to ensure smooth and safe delivery of care.
With the care package established, the son could finally travel to Italy, reassured that his parents were safe, supported, and well looked after. The arrangement was set for one month, giving the family time to enjoy their holiday and to make longer-term plans to relocate the parents to Cambridge, closer to their son.
This case is a strong example of collaboration across Trinity and our partners. By working flexibly and as a team, we found a solution that respected the parents’ wishes, supported the carers, and gave the son peace of mind. Ultimately, the family were able to move forward with confidence, knowing care and dignity were at the heart of every decision.
