What is bariatric care?
Bariatric care refers to the care, support, and treatment given to people who are obese. Obesity is usually defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or over. The BMI calculation divides a person’s weight by their height squared and is used as a key indicator for weight/health.
There are many reasons why someone may experience obesity, from hormones, stress, and mobility issues to the side effects of medication or other health conditions. According to a UK Government health survey conducted in 2021, 26% of adults in the UK are classified as obese (BMI above 30) and 38% of people are classified as overweight (BMI above 25).
Obesity has doubled in the UK since 1993 and is predicted to keep increasing. If you or a loved one is experiencing obesity, you know just how much it can impact everyday life and one’s mental and physical health.
Bariatric surgery
If you recently had or are scheduled to have bariatric surgery, then you could benefit from bariatric care until you get back on your feet. In the initial weeks after surgery, we can support you to take medications and supplements on time, prepare nutritious meals to assist your recovery, helping with wound and dressing care, encourage and support you with any prescribed exercises, accompany you to medical appointments, and much more.
At Trinity Homecare we provide all the care and support you need in the comfort of your own home. Whether it be postoperative care in the initial weeks following surgery when you need extra support, to reablement care that focuses on building your strength and abilities so you are able to carry out daily tasks, we will be by your side every step of the way.
Post-surgery bariatric care can help you recover quickly and comfortably whilst nurturing your mental health so you can feel at your best. There’s no need to struggle alone when you can have a Trinity carer by your side.
How bariatric care is provided
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed as obese, then you know there’s a lot to consider to stay well. From daily diet, exercise, and health monitoring and possibly other health conditions that need managing. It can be overwhelming at times.
We respect that everyone’s circumstances are different, that’s why we offer a range of care options to suit your needs. From live-in care where a carer will stay with you round-the-clock so there is always someone on hand, to visiting care where a carer will visit you on agreed days and times that suit you, from as little as 30 minutes a day. We also offer care for other specific conditions and circumstances such as postoperative care after surgery, reablement care to support you back to independent living, and complex care for people who have more complex health needs.
Because everyone is different, we offer a free, no-obligation at-home assessment so that we can work collaboratively with you to understand your needs, preferences, and wishes. This enables us to create a bespoke care plan that suits you perfectly. We are able to match you with a carer that is experienced in your health condition and suits your lifestyle and personality.
