Trinity Homecare is celebrating an impressive group of finalists at the Great British Care Awards 2026 South West, with colleagues and teams recognised across five categories.
The Great British Care Awards shine a light on the people and organisations making a difference across the social care sector, recognising the commitment, innovation and dedication that sit behind high-quality care.
This year, the Trinity Homecare Bristol team has been named a finalist for the Homecare Team Award, alongside four individual finalists recognised for their contributions across different areas of social care.
Our South West finalists are:
- Trinity Homecare Bristol – Homecare Team Award
- Katie Leighton – Outstanding Contribution to Social Care
- Nicola Hobbs – Co-production Award
- Nicola Waghorn – The Three R’s Award
- Katarzyna Nowicka – Home Care Worker Award
Trinity Homecare Bristol
Led by Registered Manager Angela Lee, the Bristol team supports people through live-in and visiting care, working closely with families and healthcare professionals.
Its impact is reflected in Diana’s return home following a period in residential care. The team worked with Diana, her family and other professionals to assess the risks and coordinate her equipment, medication arrangements and care plan.
By combining live-in and visiting care, the team enabled Diana to return safely to familiar surroundings, regain greater independence and live where she wanted to be.
Katie Leighton
Katie Leighton’s contribution extends beyond her role in business development. Across Bristol and Somerset, she has built links between hospital teams, charities, later-life specialists, community organisations and families seeking care.
Through workshops, events and individual conversations, Katie identifies where people lack clear information and connects them with relevant services and expertise.
Her work has also helped hospital teams understand the support available to people returning home. These relationships give families clearer routes to advice when making difficult decisions about care.
Nicola Hobbs
Nicola Hobbs helps people understand care, funding and later-life choices through a collaborative approach shaped by their questions and experiences.
Her work includes supporting webinars and educational sessions with SOLLA, the Society of Later Life Advisers. These sessions combine social care knowledge with specialist financial expertise.
Feedback gathered through community events, professional networks and individual conversations shapes future topics and resources. Nicola’s work has strengthened connections between Trinity Homecare, professionals, charities and communities, giving people greater access to trusted information when planning their future.
Nicola Waghorn
Nicola Waghorn, Trinity Homecare Group’s Head of HR and Learning and Development, has led a structured development pathway covering induction, competency assessment, specialist learning, qualifications and leadership development.
During the past year, Trinity delivered 5,400 hours of face-to-face training. Evaluations from 215 participants showed average knowledge increasing from 4.02 to 4.79 out of five.
This learning has supported care workers to respond effectively during cardiac and choking emergencies. Nicola has also supported career progression, with colleagues completing 81 diplomas across Levels 2, 3 and 5, and another 19 undertaking apprenticeships.
Katarzyna Nowicka
Katarzyna “Kate” Nowicka is recognised for ten years of advocacy and person-centred support for Mark, who lives with advanced Multiple Sclerosis.
Kate identified and reported safeguarding concerns, supported processes that protected Mark’s finances and worked with professionals to secure adaptations and suitable mobility equipment for his home.
When changes to his care were proposed, Kate gathered evidence which helped Mark retain his live-in support. She also supported healthier choices, with later blood tests showing he was no longer in the pre-diabetic range.
Today, Mark makes choices, accesses his community and enjoys activities connected to his family and interests. Kate has helped ensure his voice remains heard and his life remains his own.
Celebrating care excellence
Simon Yeoman, Managing Director of Trinity Homecare, said: ,blockquote>“To have five finalists recognised across such different areas of social care is a proud achievement. Each nomination reflects the knowledge, care and commitment our colleagues bring to their work. We are delighted to see the Bristol team, Katie, Nicola, Nicola and Katarzyna receive this recognition.”
We wish all five finalists every success at the Great British Care Awards South West 2026.
