A job to give a feeling of fulfilment
Moving from Romania to the UK ten years ago, 37-year-old, Daniela has been on a mission to find a job that fulfils her needs and gives her a feeling of fulfilment at the end of each day. Daniela previously studied marketing at degree level, but found it difficult to get employment with her degree when she moved to the UK. Landing herself a job as a care worker at Trinity Homecare, Daniela was excited for the future.
When moving to the UK, Daniela first started a career in maintenance where she worked as a cleaning manager. She was managing superstores to provide cleaning services, security and catering. It was from this role that Daniela realised how much she enjoyed working closely with people.
After going through many personal changes, Daniela went through a difficult separation which forced her and her two sons to move home, where she soon plucked up the courage to seek a new career and the new start she needed in her life. Daniela applied for a role with Trinity Homecare, where she now works as a visiting carer for the Epsom and Ewell area.
My personal life has changed a lot since November. I was managing over 100 stores and travelling in excess of 200 miles a day. As a single mum, I couldn’t work full-time anymore and needed something that would fit in around my son. I often thought of working in the care sector because I am naturally a very caring person. After a friend’s recommendation, applying to Trinity seemed to be the perfect opportunity
Applying for Trinity Homecare was the first care job she had applied for and described the process as “simple and easy.”
Have trust in yourself
After changing her career, Daniela says “Sometimes in life you want to change your career and you may be fearful. You may not trust yourself and I didn’t trust myself at the time. I wasn’t in a great place with my Personal Life and the decision to start something new was a big decision. I am so happy I have done it now. I am simply overwhelmed with how great it is and I really encourage others to follow their heart.”
For Daniela, the flexibility in working hours appealed to her most as it meant she could spend quality time with her children whilst they are at school and support her eldest who was sitting his GCSEs at the time. This, and the rewarding nature of caring for others, prompted her to dive in deep with new career at Trinity Homecare, immersing herself in the world of care and the rewarding times it has to offer.
Starting with Trinity Homecare in May 2020, Daniela is now one of Trinity Homecare’s visiting carer’s for the Epsom and Ewell area and has the flexibility to cover Worcester Park as well. Before going out and caring for others on her own, Daniela was placed on Trinity Homecare’s training programme along with shadowing from senior care workers.
Staff training at Trinity Homecare was impressionable and well-structured
Daniela says “Having worked as an academy trainer in the past, I was really happy with the training in the Trinity office. I found it impressionable and well-structured. Marissa who delivers the training was great and answered all of my questions.”
Following on from training, Daniela started visiting clients, where she was supported and shadowed by two of our senior care workers, Sally and Summer. She says, “The first two days with Summer were great.
I had a lot of questions and she answered them all, giving me the confidence I needed. She went by the book and made sure I was comfortable at all times. Then I had further shadowing with Sally where I was able to learn even more!”
Now Daniela is working on her own, visiting regular clients, she is becoming more confident every day. “In such a short amount of time, I am already getting to know the clients really well. The TrinityConnect app is easy to use and I can check what I need to do with ease. Now I am getting to know the clients, I can do my job efficiently and with ease.”
Despite only being with the company for a couple of months, Daniela says “I am overwhelmed with how much I love my job. I haven’t got my grandparents around so I feel like I am giving something back and I love to know that I am making a difference. When I sleep at night I am so pleased with myself. It’s a lovely feeling which I never expected.”
Meeting and working with Lovely Clients
Since Daniela had never cared for anyone before, she expected an unpleasant experience where clients would be “grumpy or in pain” but says it is “nothing like that.” Daniela continues “I have met lovely clients and they have great life stories. They like to talk with you and share their stories, which I love to listen to. You learn about yourself on a daily basis from them. You found out your situation and you learn lot about yourself.”
Only two months in and Daniela is waiting to receive her Care Certificate. Her experience so far has been so positive, that she is also considering studying an NVQ level two in Health and Social Care to progress in her care career.
Having undertaken Trinity Homecare’s Dementia training, Daniela says “The opportunities at Trinity are endless. I found the dementia workshop really interesting. I didn’t realise so many people lived with Dementia but I now realise most of the clients have it and now I am aware how to approach them with confidence. I think everyone who has someone in the family with dementia should do it. I love learning new things and reading, especially if you want to progress.”
It’s early days for Daniela at Trinity Homecare but the team are all so excited to have her on board and see her progress with the support and training we provide to our staff at Trinity Homecare.
